Senior Engineer (Operations Systems Support)

Job Description

Job Purpose:

  • To implement, maintain, and optimize OSS platforms and supporting infrastructure.
  • Manage and resolve day-to-day operational issues related to OSS applications.
  • Will need to work closely with cross-functional teams to identify potential issues, implement preventative measures, and provide timely solutions, ensuring that all technical components of our platform function smoothly and without disruption

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must familiarize with designated OSS platforms, from architectural design to daily operational tasks, including design, planning, installation, provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, supports and maintenance of the OSS platforms.
  • Manage, monitor, optimize and troubleshoot the private/public cloud infrastructure (VMs/AWS/GCP), operating systems, application platforms, backups and components related to OSS platforms.
  • Implement upgrades and updates to the OSS application and system infrastructure.
  • Ensure that platform complies with security governance policies
  • Support in-house development of workflows, network modelling and reports
  • Prepare training guides, operational guidelines, policy documents and relevant reports
  • Test and evaluate new patches or releases from vendors
  • Support the roll-out of new patches or applications
  • Support daily user issues for the applications
  • Able to investigate, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems. Identifies and manages interfaces, service levels, standards, and configurations. 
  • Demonstrates good understanding of the business needs driving the projects
  • Able to liaise with vendors on change requests and put-up necessary purchase requisitions.
  • Able to provide technical advice and supports to the users on existing and new software systems.
  • Able to perform project management role in tenders, project implementation and maintenance contract negotiation.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer engineering, Information Technology or equivalent

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in operations and day to day user support of Telco OSS Applications
  • Experience in VMware and Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/AliCloud/Openshift/GCP/Others) technologies
  • Hands-on on system administration experience in
  • Operating Systems (Windows/RHEL/CentOS)
  • Database Systems (MYSQL/SQL server/Oracle)
  • Servers/Router/Switch
  • Proficiency with application/web servers (Apache, Tomcat, NGINX etc.) in Windows/UNIX/Linux/K8S environments
  • Proficiency in scripting (Shell, Powershell)
  • Knowledge in telco network such as Fixed, IP and Mobile Networks
  • Experienced in application deployment on containers and virtualized environments
  • Certifications in Windows Administration, Linux Administration, K8S Administration will be added advantage.
  • Programming skills and Development Experience in Java/PHP/Python, Web Services, Rest will be added advantage
  • Willingness to study, apply new skills to fulfil business and operational requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in telecom OSS 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in supports and maintenance of applications and system infrastructure. 

Interpersonal:

  • The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in tracking responsibilities and ensuring accuracy.
  • The individual may have varying levels of responsibility depending on project needs
  • This position requires interaction with internal staff, external staff, customer service and end users so effective communication & people skills are a must
