Platform Lead, Mobile Engineering (4G/5G)

Job Description

The Platform Lead, Mobile Engineering is responsible for the strategy, design, deployment, operation, and commercial success of Private 4G/5G Mobile Core platforms and services. The role leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for building and operating secure, resilient, and scalable private cellular networks for enterprise, industrial, campus, utilities, transportation, smart city, and mission-critical environments.

The Lead will own the end-to-end lifecycle of the Private Mobile Core service, including solution architecture, platform engineering, network operations, service assurance, customer onboarding, vendor management, and innovation. The role will also drive the adoption of cloud-native 5G Core technologies, network automation, AI-enabled operations, and industry-specific solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Mobile Core Architecture and Design

• Own the architecture and design of: 
• Enterprise Private Core (4G/5G)
• IMS platforms 
• Subscriber management systems 
• Authentication and security platforms 
• Network slicing architecture 
• Edge computing integration 
• Operational support systems
• Define standards for: 
• High availability 
• Security 
• Multi-tenancy 
• Scalability 
• Regulatory compliance 
• Drive cloud-native and containerized mobile core architectures. 

Platform Engineering and Service Delivery

• Lead the engineering team responsible for: 
• Platform build and deployment 
• Core network integration 
• Automation and orchestration 
• Software upgrades 
• Technology lifecycle management 
• Establish Infrastructure-as-Code and Network-as-Code practices. 
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for network functions. 
• Oversee onboarding of new customer environments and services. 

Network Operations and Service Assurance

• Own 24x7 operational performance of the Private Mobile Core platform. 
• Ensure service availability, reliability, and security targets are achieved. 
• Establish operational processes for: 
• Incident management 
• Problem management 
• Change management 
• Capacity management 
• Service assurance 
• Drive operational excellence through: 
• AIOps 
• Predictive analytics 
• Automated remediation 
• Autonomous network operations 

Security and Compliance (work with CISO)

• Ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations and spectrum requirements. 
• Establish security controls for: 
• Subscriber data 
• Core network functions 
• API exposure 
• Edge computing environments
• Drive cyber resilience and business continuity programs. 

Vendor and Ecosystem Management
Manage strategic partnerships with mobile core ecosystem providers such as:

• Nokia and other technology partners like HPE, Dell, Lenovo
• Negotiate commercial agreements and support contracts. 
• Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions. 
• Manage platform and service delivery partners.

Requirements

• Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• At least 15 years in telecommunications, mobile networks, or enterprise wireless solutions with at least 8 years in leadership positions.
• Proven experience designing and operating: 

• • Private LTE networks 
  • 5G Standalone networks 
  • Mobile core platforms 
  • Cloud-native network functions 
• Experience with: 
  • MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) 
  • Network slicing 
  • Kubernetes/OpenShift 
  • AI-driven network operations 
  • Enterprise digital transformation
