Middleware Architect

Role Mission:
This role exists to define, standardize, and evolve the enterprise middleware and integration architecture to support growing digital, partner, and internal platform demands. As systems scale in volume and complexity, the organization requires a cohesive architecture that ensures reliability, security, and reuse across services and integrations. The role provides technical leadership to align business requirements with cloud-native, API-driven solutions while reducing operational risk and complexity.
Accountabilities:
- Enterprise middleware and integration architecture strategy.
- API and microservices architecture governance.
- Platform scalability, resilience, and non-functional standards.
- Security, compliance, and architectural best practices.
- Technical leadership and cross-team alignment.
Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain reference architectures, design standards, and patterns for middleware, APIs, and distributed systems.
- Architect cloud-native, containerized services and integration solutions that are scalable, secure, and highly available.
- Govern API lifecycle management, including design guidelines, versioning strategies, traffic management, and consumption models.
- Collaborate with DevOps, security, and operations teams to ensure observability, automation, and platform readiness for production workloads.
- Provide architectural guidance, conduct design reviews, and mentor engineering teams while engaging stakeholders and vendors as required.
Team Scope/ Stakeholders:
- Engineering & Platform Teams
Works closely with middleware, integration, and application development teams to define architecture standards, review designs, and guide implementation of cloud-native and API-based solutions. - DevOps & Operations
Partners with DevOps, SRE, and operations teams to ensure platforms meet non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, scalability, observability, and disaster recovery. - Security & Risk Management
Collaborates with security, risk, and compliance teams to embed security-by-design principles, ensure secure integrations, and meet enterprise governance and audit requirements. - Business & Product Stakeholders
Engages with business, product owners, and delivery leads to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and align architecture with strategic priorities. - Enterprise Architecture & Governance
Aligns with enterprise architecture, architecture review boards, and governance forums to ensure consistency with enterprise standards, roadmaps, and technology direction. - External Partners & Vendors
Coordinates with external vendors, system integrators, and partners for solution alignment, technical evaluations, and integration readiness.
Minimum Profile/ Track Record:
- 8–12+ years of overall IT experience with a proven track record in middleware, integration, or platform engineering roles.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale, cloud-native architectures supporting high-volume, mission-critical systems.
- Proven ability to define and govern API-led and microservices architectures, including lifecycle management, security, and non-functional requirements.
- Hands-on background in modern backend development with at least one widely adopted programming language and experience guiding multiple teams.
- Track record of leading architecture decisions, conducting design reviews, and influencing technical direction across cross-functional teams.
- Experience operating in complex, regulated, or large-scale enterprise environments, balancing delivery speed with stability, security, and governance.
