Job Description

 

Purpose

  • Formulate a strategy to evolve StarHub’s networks from traditional appliances to one that optimises and is equipped with software capabilities through software-defined networking.
  • Lead a team to plan, design, strategize and transform StarHub’s telco network infrastructure into a software-enabled, intelligent network architecture that supports partial or fully-automated and data-driven operating model.
  • This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a long-term technology blueprint (roadmap) to introduce and enable software capabilities and modernize StarHub’s networks
  • Evaluate and identify areas of automation with clear architecture view and its evolution path
  • Introduce best practices of DevOps and build agile development mindset and capabilities within teams
  • Provide strong leadership to drive network transformation program, including the development of strategies and implementation plans to manage processes, automation, best practices, documentations, in accordance with required security and ICT policies, standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Coach/guide teams to jumpstart software development with hands-on approach to engineering solutions around the platform
  • Develop highly collaborative teams and build a quality-centric environment
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for software networking, cloud computing, orchestration platforms, CI/CD pipeline and ML/AI. Provide guidance on best practices to internal teams including business propositions and solution mapping from product use case to technical network design perspectives
  • Manage and influence business stakeholders in use case design and development
     

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of telco network architectures, technologies, services, used in wireline and wireless operators
  • Deep knowledge of cloud architecture (private cloud, multi-cloud, hybrid cloud), software-defined networking, network virtualization, containerization and their application to PaaS and IaaS technologies, and security fundamentals
  • Deep knowledge of NFV architecture and the telco main use cases e.g., vCPE, vEPC, vCDN, vIMS, vSGi-LAN, vPCRF, PCEF, Diameter, vDPI, vRAN, MEC, MANO, etc
  • Solid knowledge of telco operational support system (OSS), business support system (BSS) platforms, API integration
  • Knowledge of best practices DevOps and agile development to support business use case development
  • Knowledge of creating new data-driven approaches for the purpose of generating network insights through data analytics, information visualization tools
  • Knowledge of machine learning/ artificial intelligence (ML/AI) technologies to bring network automation to next level, achieving full automation and closed-loop operations
  • Proven track record of working in one or more of the following: Telco DevOps environment, private/public cloud environment, containers and enterprise Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline
  • Experience in setting a DevOps team organization in a telco environment as the network transit towards a more software-oriented outfit
  • Experience in formulating strategies, plans and execute to drive and accelerate automation and integration to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Experience in developing architectural design and integration framework for various orchestration platforms (Service/NFV/Cloud Orchestrators) and domain network controllers; technical know-how to implement end-to-end service orchestration for network resources (physical and virtual) from underlying network domains and cloud platforms
  • Strong domain expertise in DevOps automation, containerization and orchestration using tools such as Confluence, Mesos, Chef, Ansible, SevOne, Elastic Stack, Docker, SonarQube, Kubernetes, Puppet, Garden, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory, Openshift
  • Hands-on experiences in the following technologies would be advantageous:
  • Cloud Foundry, PaaS, SaaS
  • Public Clouds such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure
  • Knowledge in scripting languages such as Python, Yaml, JSON and writing Infrastructure-as-Code templates and playbooks
  • Knowledge of software best practices eg Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Experience with Microservice and container-based application architectures
  • Familiar with relational databases, preferably MySQL, NoSQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL; and unstructured data management
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies
